About the project
POKAZ-Kumasi
An international joint double-degree master’s program in environmental engineering, with particular emphasis on modern water resources management in the context of a changing climate. The cooperation between the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW) and Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) of Ghana is aimed at internationalizing the Polish degree program through the continuation of the existing English-language pathway program and academic exchanges, as well as increasing the competence of the academic staff.
Purpose and scope of the program
The project aims to internationalize SGGW’s educational offerings through the implementation of second-cycle studies in English. The international program developed aims to deepen knowledge in the field of environmental engineering, particularly in water management under changing climatic conditions and their consequences for the environment. It will promote graduates who will become experts in water and environmental management in different environmental contexts: water scarcity in agricultural areas and protected areas in Poland, as well as addressing the challenges of water management in wet and dry climate zones using Ghana as an example. Students will gain experience during laboratory and field activities in Poland and Ghana. Graduates will receive master’s degrees in environmental engineering from both partner universities. The premise of the project is for participants to obtain qualifications in modern and sustainable environmental engineering, including the use of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) for environmental monitoring. The study will last three semesters in Poland and four semesters in Ghana. Classes will be taught in English, which will increase their international character and attractiveness in the job market. The study will last three semesters in Poland and four semesters in Ghana. Ghanaian students will spend two semesters in joint studies with students in Poland, while SGGW students will spend three months in Ghana pursuing field and laboratory activities, scientific excursions and research co-led by staff from both partner universities.
Student and staff participation
The program plans to recruit 15 students in the field of environmental engineering, with gender equality (7 women and 8 men). Participants in the project will benefit from academic exchanges, study tours in Poland and Ghana, as well as participate in certified training, such as training and examination of UAV operators.
Benefits of the project
Students from Poland and Ghana will improve their intercultural, linguistic and interpersonal competencies, thus increasing their competitiveness in the job market. Additional competencies of piloting UAV, acquiring and analyzing acquired data will unveil new opportunities for professional activity. The project also supports students with disabilities, providing them access to the program on equal terms.
